Magic in Veldram
At it's very core, the magic that flows through Veldram is as mysterious as it is powerful. Not every species is in tune with this magic, and most cannot control or wield it. All magic derives from the planet's core, which takes the form of a massive crystalline spire jutting through the middle of it. Due to it's incredibly overwhelming power, the creatures of Veldram are advised to steer clear of getting too close, as those that venture too far into the overgrown crystal forest quickly succumb to it's will. There is a virus contained within the water and soil here, and those that are exposed to it are almost always overtaken by it.
There is a vast amount of respect and understanding between the spire and the inhabitants of Veldram. There are even those who worship the spire, seeing it as more of a living force than a bizarre gargantuan growth. It's sentience and purpose are widely speculated, and it's origination is unknown and lost to time. For as long as anyone could remember, it has always been there, and most of the planet thankfully has adapted to it's peculiar properties.
So what sort of magic flows through Veldram? Well, magic takes many forms. While most are considered normal and not a problem, there are a few that are considered to be taboo to use, and frowned upon en masse.

Elemental Magic (Legal - Common)
Elemental magic is precisely what you may think it is. From water to fire to electricity, anything that may be classified as an 'element' is considered to fall in the elemental spectrum. The power of this type of magic varies from user to user. For example, while one magic wielder may only be able to conjure up small flickers of flame, another may be able to create a massive explosion of fire. This element is widespread and may be learned.
Natural Magic (Legal - Common)
Natural magic is magic that derives from the natural abilities of individual species. Magic that comes naturally to it's user is classified as natural magic. Unlike nearly all other forms of magic, this magic cannot be 'learned' manually. This form of magic may consist of the ability to transform the user's body, cloaking and invisibility, the ability to sense other magic users, and many other unique forms of magic exclusive to specific Veldram species.
Telekinetic Magic (Legal - Uncommon)
Telekinetic magic, while uncommon, is a relatively simple magic. This magic can be used to move objects, and if powerful enough, even other creatures and people. Those who wield this magic often use it to help build structures, houses, and ships. They may even use this magic to make themselves "hover" above the ground or even fly for various periods of time. This form of magic, just like natural magic, cannot be learned manually. However, Telekinetic magic may be randomly dispersed among creatures.
Blood Magic (Outlawed - Rare)
Blood magic is one of the more cruel, yet manual types of magic. Those that practice this magic intentionally need to make the choice to follow this path, as this magic requires the blood of mortals to be used. This blood must be consumed and absorbed into the wielder's body, and the more blood that they consume, the more powerful this magic is.
Blood magic is used for mind control, an alternate form of telekinesis, monstrous transformation, flight, and can even be used to kill. This magic appears in the form of red, glowing matter that varies in tangibility. A more common example would be a red spike, which the user can easily control.
Due to it's malicious nature, Blood magic has been outlawed by the people of Veldram. Those caught using this magic are actively hunted and many people are advised to dispatch or lock away those that they can catch.

Reality Magic (Legal, but Taboo - Extremely Rare)
Chances are if you have gained any understanding of this magic, you have ascended 'mortal' status. Not only is this magic unstable and dangerous, it is virtually impossible to contain and wield safely. Only those who are natural masters at magic may be able to decipher this mysterious power.
Reality magic has capabilities of warping certain aspects of reality. This power can create portals to other worlds, shift terrain at will, open up different planes of existence, teleportation, and even temporarily freeze time. Not to mention, those that can control reality magic often times have control over all other kinds of magic as well. The possibilities are virtually endless, even if this power does have certain limits. Ironically, it has been found that those who use this power in the vicinity of the spire are often overwhelmed by the spire's power, inevitably resulting in grim fatality.
In conclusion, if you hold this kind of power, you are considered a deity among Veldram's people.
